You can use this site without an account. The tools work in your browser. This page explains what may stay on your device and what happens when you follow an outside link.

No accounts or submitted tool entries
Outsmart the Lot has no site accounts. The amounts and notes you enter into calculators and worksheets are processed in your browser, not sent to the site owner. Some tools save work in this browser as described below.
The site does not provide a contact form, checkout, or newsletter signup. The tools do not need identity documents, Social Security numbers, bank details, full account numbers, or copies of credit reports. Keep those in your own secure files and use document references in notes.

Saved quotes and comparison work
The quote checker saves your current draft and saved offers in this browser's site data. This includes the vehicle and seller labels, entered amounts, credit conditions, financing terms, and notes. The decision worksheet also saves its entered comparison and assumptions locally. The scripts page can save the car details and name you type to fill in its messages; its Clear my details button removes them. These records are not submitted to the site owner.
Saved work stays in this browser on this device; it does not automatically appear on another device or browser. Someone with access to this browser profile may be able to read it. Private browsing, clearing site data, or storage limits can prevent saving or remove records. Safari on iPhone, iPad, and Mac can also delete this saved work (WebKit calls it script-writable storage) if you use Safari for 7 days without tapping, clicking, or typing on this site. If you add this site to your Home Screen, that copy isn't affected, but it keeps its own data, separate from what you saved in Safari. Check the tool's saving status and download a copy of work you need to keep.
Use the clear or delete controls in the relevant tool to remove its saved work, or clear Outsmart the Lot's browser site data in browser settings to remove local tool records and checklist progress together. Deleting site data does not delete files you previously downloaded or printed.
Temporary timing, inspection, and other records
The timing, inspection, delivery, private-sale handoff, credit-application, and after-buying action records keep their entries only while that page is open. They do not save those notes in your browser's site data. Copy, download, or print before leaving or reloading the page. Standalone calculator entries are also temporary unless the tool explicitly identifies saved work.
Copying puts the selected text on your clipboard. A downloaded or printed record may remain in your downloads folder, cloud backup, or printer history. Importing a file into a tool reads it in your browser without uploading it to this site. Check an exported file before sharing it with anyone.
Buying-checklist progress stays in your browser
The detailed buying and leasing checklists save completed steps and your current section in this browser's site data so you can return to them on this device. That progress is not sent to the site owner or automatically transferred to another browser or device.
You can clear a checklist with its Reset progress control, or clear Outsmart the Lot's browser site data in your browser settings.
VIN checks
When you check a VIN with the VIN check, your browser sends that VIN directly to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's free public databases to identify the vehicle and count its recalls. NHTSA receives the request like any website visit. The VIN is not sent to the site owner, saved in your browser, or added to this site's web address.
If you choose a VINsmart report link after a check, the VIN is included in that link so VINsmart can fill in its search box for you. VINsmart links also carry a short code naming the page they're on, such as "vincheck-page". The code never includes your VIN. It lets VINsmart's affiliate reports show us which of our pages led to a report.
The VIN check also links to VehicleHistoryReport.com for a free title report. That link doesn't include your VIN: the Copy VIN button puts the VIN on your clipboard, and you paste it on that site. Before it shows the report, VehicleHistoryReport.com asks for your name, email, and ZIP code, and its privacy policy lets it and other companies contact you. We don't receive what you enter there.
Cloudflare hosting and visit counts
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages help people. It does not use cookies or other browser storage, and it does not fingerprint or follow you across websites. For each page view it records basic details such as the page, the site that linked you here, your browser and device type, your country, and how quickly the page loaded. It never receives what you type into the tools.
Cloudflare also handles the web requests needed to show you this site, including ordinary connection and request information.

VINsmart handles the paid vehicle-history reports, and Ko-fi handles optional tips. The Tip button in the site header opens Ko-fi's embedded tip panel. It loads only after you select that button, and closes when you close the panel. Ko-fi then receives the web requests needed to show its form and handles any tip or payment details under its own privacy policy. We do not send your calculator entries or saved notes to the panel.
The footer, the About page, and some tool results also link directly to Ko-fi. When you follow a VINsmart or Ko-fi link, you leave this site and their privacy policies apply. VINsmart links are clearly labeled paid links, so Outsmart the Lot may earn a commission if you make a qualifying purchase. Official agency and other external links also lead to sites with their own data practices; this site does not submit your worksheet notes to them.
